It's there, in front of your face on a daily basis. The bright and sparkly lives of others. The lives of others always look so clean cut and put together. Never a bump in the road, or a mistake on their part. Do they ever even have to worry?
Makes you think "Why can't my life be like theirs?" "Why can't I look like that?" Listen carefully,
'Nope' that idea right out of your mind.
Stop right there.
In today's world of social media highlights, it's now more in your face "look at me now" then ever before. It's so hard to remember that, any and all of us have been on the struggle bus. In fact I'm on it right now! So what do you do when you are feeling over whelmed by the highlight reel?
Step one!
The obvious but challenging answer is to unplug.
It can be hard to do if you are the type, like myself, who is constantly on their phone due to work and leisure. There are times when I'd love to walk away from my phone for a week! Just be present in my life! That's one thing I can't do due to my work. That's okay. Because I can still control my screen time, and where on the net I'm spending that time.
There a lots of ways to keep yourself busy try some of my suggestions here
Step Two!
When the thumb gets a' scrolling, you get to moving!
Get up, move around! The less you sit there and banter your brain with photos of so and so's perfect life, the better you'll feel! Limit your screen time! Take back your life! All it takes is one step up off the couch. I've even downloaded an app on my phone that records which apps I use the most, and how much time I spend on them. It even tells me how many times I day I check my phone. Which has really improved my productivity. Knowing I had an issue, was the first step into fixing it.
Step Three!
Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it.
Do I really need to start screaming Hannah Montana here, cause I will. I get it's defiantly hard to remember after spending time looking through instagram and facebook. They seem so happy and perfect.
Well good for them! They are sharing their happiest times with the world! I necessarily don't find it very easy to share my insecurities and struggles with the world either. Could you imagine if we did? How sad and negative we'd all sound. You have to remember that we ALL get down. We ALL have a hard time with this.
But we don't all feel like sharing every negative thought with the world on social media, We can be real but tasteful. We can be real and mindful of that, your reel, looks just as bight and sunny to others as the person so perfect does to you! You might be thinking "My life is defiantly NOT perfect" not even realizing someone else is looking at your media, just as you look at others thinking "Wow, I wish I could be as trendy and perfect! Does she ever have a bad hair day??"
Social Media is new and its BOOMING. The demand for likes as love is rising and we haven't even had the time to think about it! So give yourself some time to think about it! Reflex on the ways if effects you, and your happiness. Reflect on how it's been good for you, and bad for you. Learn how to work it, and not let it work you. Then you decide what all this means to you, just knowing what it is that hits your heart can help you prevent these negative feels Highlight reels can bring us.
You can change your thought behind it entirely! It's up to you!
Unfollow who you must, and trust in your gut.
